Bracelets / Archaeology

Bracelets were common jewellery pieces amongst women in the Wielbark culture. Obviously, over the course of hundreds of years the style of bracelets changed – we can see diverse forms and a variety of decoration. They were made in local workshops by Germanic craftsmen from bronze, silver or gold.

Bronze bracelets are the most common, silver was quite rare and gold bracelets are indeed scarce. As there are no precious metal deposits in area, the gold and silver used for bracelets probably came from Roman coins that were looted in battles with the Roman Empire in 2 A.D. during the Marcomannic Wars.
