"wisła" Tv Set,1957 / History

The "Wisła" TV set was produced in 1957 and is still fully operational. The outer box is made of wood covered with a walnut veneer, the upper section has a cover under which there are 5 knobs for adjusting the volume, tone, contrast, brightness, and sharpness. The front section forms a frame for the tube screen which is covered by unbreakable glass. The cabinet is in the Late Art-Deco style.

The design of old TV sets is extremely different to today. The receivers had large, wide wooden tube housings and small screens. The first transmissions (programs) were short - a couple or several minutes, black and white. The first televisions were very exclusive items and not everyone could afford to own one. For this reason, larger groups, not only family, but also friends and acquaintances and even neighbours often watched a broadcast together.
