Stained Glass, early XX century
comes from a tenement house in Lębork
The stained glass window comes from a tenement house in Lębork, which belonged to the owner of the printing house in Lębork, H. Badengoth. It is composed of 7 sections, in which the decorative motifs refer to symbols connected to printing. The main section of the window depicts Johannes Gutenberg, the printer and creator of the world's first industrial printing method. The stained glass window was acquired in 2010.
Lębork's history of printing can be traced to information about two printing houses that prospered in Lębork in the 19th century. The first was founded by F.W. Feige in 1848. A year later, on April 7, 1849, a second was built at the former Danzigerstrasse 114 (now Kossaka Street), founded by Hermann Friedrich Leopold Badengoth. Herman Badengoth, who came from the territory of today's Lithuania, was drawn to Lębork by a friendly invitation from another printer - F. W. Feige, who already had a printing house.
