Bronze axes
Collection of small bronze axes
Listen to the text of the page
This collection of small bronze axes was recovered in the forest near Smołdzino. All the objects in this find, before being buried in the ground, were tied up with string, fragments of which have been preserved in the axe handles. The artefacts have clearly been well-used and for this reason it is believed that they belonged to a tradesman or metalworker and were intended to be melted down. They were probably hidden around the 8th century B.C.
