Glass goblet with images of swans

The glass goblet decorated with images of blue and white swans was discovered with the glass fish at the Czarnówka site in the grave of a young woman dating from the end of the 2nd century A.D. Like the glass fish, the goblet is believed to have originated in one of the Roman Empire’s Middle Eastern workshops or in the capital of Germania Inferior – today’s Cologne in Germany. Nearly two thousand years underground have left their mark on this delicate piece, but thanks to hours of careful restoration work the goblet can now shine once again.
