Pomeranian cult face urns

The urns had a hat-shaped lid, reminiscent of a type of  head covering  worn at that time. The surface of the urns were often decorated with magical – symbolic engravings such as  coniferous tree branches, the sun, stars, the moon or waves. There were also images of clothing and ornamentation, figurative scenes of people and animals were rare. In our museum collection the most interesting example of a Pomeranian face urn is engraved with a mounted rider whose head is the sun and who carries two spears in his hands.
