Pomeranian cult face urns
Listen to the text of the page
In the early Iron Age, influenced by highly developed cultures from southern Europe (including the Etruscans), there came a change in burial ceremonies in the lands of Poland. For the first time in prehistory special clay vessels (urns) were made that were intended only for the burial of cremated human remains. There are many examples of urns decorated with the image of a human head (face urns) with ears that were decorated with earrings – bronze hoops with beads of glass or amber.
